The 2023 Bricklayer500 Regional Competition was held at Midwest Brick & Block on Saturday, September 16.  As has been customary, every team competing was a Union Member employed by one of our Bricklayers Local 1 of Missouri Signatory Contractors.




We are excited to announce the First Place winning team *and* the Top Craftsman award at the 2023 Bricklayer500 Regional Contest are Local 1 MO Journeyman Bricklayer Rudy Menke, and his Mason Tender Steve Braswell, employed by Local 1 Signatory Contractor John Smith Masonry. They will be advancing on to the National Championships in Las Vegas in January 2024.

The last couple weeks kicked off our Spring Semester at the ADC Apprenticeship Training Center with Bricklayers Local 1 Apprentice Coordinator Dale Jennewein.

A few of the Bricklayers Local 1 Apprentices spent the day laying block for the base of a new athletics equipment shed at Eureka High School, whose campus was extensively damaged by back-to-back flooding. 

An opinion piece went live on Medium.com a few months ago outlining the many ways the poor and working class workers are being abused by the rich, i.e., the Waltons, the Bezoses, the Trumps. In it, she explains that job creation isn’t any more than a catchphrase and doesn’t mean anything to the average person. Many of the points made in this article are going to sound familiar, as they are similar talking points to the anti-RTW movement. It is worth the ten or so minutes it will take you to read.

At the Local 23MO Christmas Party held earlier in December, Improver Austen Arnold and Apprentice Dessiree (Annie) Harvey are pictured next to their class project, a fireplace they proudly built for the party.  

In observance of New Year's, there will be NO January 2020 Union Meetings for Bricklayers' Local 1 OR for Tilesetter's Local 18.  

We will see you in February! 

In November 2019, some of our Local 1 Apprentices assisted in building the load-bearing block piers for the new wheelchair-accessible house in progress for former Rock Hill Police Officer Mathew Crosby, who was shot and paralyzed in the line of duty.  These piers will hold up the deck from the second floor of the house and will be wrapped in stone at a later date. 

The BAC ADC of Eastern Missouri Joint Apprenticeship and Training School recently hosted a Scaffold Training for our Members.  We'd like to thank Ray Boehm and Goedecke for helping to put this training together.
