Organized in 1864, we are theBricklayers Local 1, and the first Labor Union and Local of any trade west of the Mississippi River. The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Administrative Council of Eastern Missouri represents Local 1 of Missouri bricklayers, stone, pointers/cleaners/caulkers and marble masons, and Local 18 of Missouri tilesetters, terrazzo and mosaic workers.
We take pride in the fact that we've built St. Louis, and that our leadership has taken care of the membership of this Union for more than 150 years, and will continue to do so for many more.
The 2023 Bricklayer500 Regional Competition was held at Midwest Brick & Block on Saturday, September 16. As has been customary, every team competing was a Union Member employed by one of our Bricklayers Local 1 of Missouri Signatory Contractors.
We are excited to announce the First Place winning team *and* the Top Craftsman award at the 2023 Bricklayer500 Regional Contest are Local 1 MO Journeyman Bricklayer Rudy Menke, and his Mason Tender Steve Braswell, employed by Local 1 Signatory Contractor John Smith Masonry. They will be advancing on to the National Championships in Las Vegas in January 2024.
This week kicked off our Fall Semester at the ADC Apprenticeship Training Center with Bricklayers Local 1 Apprentice Coordinator Dale Jennewein and Tilesetters Local 18 Apprentice Coordinator Stoyan Hristov at the helm.
Below are some photos of our new Level 1 Bricklayers and PCCs hard at work in the shop and being observed using the MULE by JATC Trustees Brian Jennewein and Dave Gillick. Additionally, there are photos of our Level 2 and Level 3 Apprentices learning to read blueprints, working on a design-build and drawing out and building their own stone patterns.

Bricklayers' Local 1 has an active job action against Adan's Masonry Plus at the Ballwin Village West Plaza, for hiring a contractor paying substandard wages to add cultured stone piers on the front of stores in the plaza. This plaza is located in front of Target on Manchester Road in Ballwin.

East Central College has formally announced the new agreement on their website and in a series of press releases. An excerpt is below:
East Central College will offer an opportunity for Bricklayers' Local 1 members to complete an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Skilled Trades. This degree opportunity was agreed upon recently between the College and the Bricklayers' Local 1 of Missouri Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC).
